Shana Agid bio

Shana Agid is an artist/designer, teacher, and activist whose work focuses on relationships of power and difference in visual, social, and political cultures.

Shana’s collaborative design practice focuses on exploring possibilities for self-determined services and campaigns through teaching and design research. Her writing on design, politics, and pedagogy has been published in Design and Culture, Design Philosophy Papers, Lateral: The Journal of the Cultural Studies Association, Design Studies, CoDesign, in the proceedings of the Participatory Design Conference, and in edited collections. He is a co-developer of Working with People (working-with-people.org), a keyword-based curriculum and website for developing critical pedagogical frameworks for collaborative practices.

Shana is also a book artist and letterpress printer. Her books and prints combine image, text, and form to explore spaces of power, desire, landscape, and their narratives. His work has been shown at The New York Center for Book Arts, the San Francisco Center for the Book, Southern Exposure, the Lower East Side Printshop, the Minnesota Center for Book Arts, the Hamilton Wood Type Museum, and other venues. His artist books are in the collections of the Walker Art Center, New York Public Library, Library of Congress, and the New York City Center for Book Arts, among others.

She is an Associate Professor of Arts, Media, and Communication at Parsons School of Design, and holds an MFA in Printmaking and Book Arts and MA in Visual and Critical Studies from California College of the Arts (CCA) and a Ph.D. in Design from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT).
