Exhibition: Who Is America at 250?

Forgeries is included in this exhibition investigating the question of the united states in 2025. At a time when federal celebrations are doubling down on the imperial, racist, elitist, heteronormative, and patriarchal as essential foundations while stripping histories of their harms from the sites and spaces where they have been honed, it is critical for artists and art works to tell these stories and render other visions and strategies for freedom, instead.
The exhibition, curated by Betty Bright, Mark Dimunation, Maymanah Farhat, Yuka Petz, and Ruth Rogers and organized by the San Francisco Center for the Book, will travel to The Boston Athanaeum and the Minnesota Center for Book Arts.
From the curators: The exhibition Who is America at 250? Artists’ Books on the State of Democracy explores the realities and perceptions of living in the United States today. Featuring artists’ books and print work by artists from across the nation, the exhibition reflects on the current state of our American experiment.
Who Is America at 250? addresses critical issues that individuals and communities in the United States face daily, such as immigration, social injustice, racial inequity, and wage inequality. Simultaneously, the exhibition explores what makes America known as the “land of opportunity,” providing perspectives on both the challenges and prospects of American democracy.
